(NEW YORK) -- "Son of Sam" killer David Berkowitz was denied parole this week after he refused to show up for a parole interview.
Berkowitz was scheduled to appear before the Parole Board on Tuesday, but declined. He will spend at least two more years behind bars.
Berkowitz first became eligible for parole consideration in 2002, and the scheduled interview on May 6 was his seventh scheduled interview.
The Parole Board deemed that there was a "reasonable probability" that if Berkowitz were released he "would not live and remain at liberty without violating the law." The panel cited his unwillingness to appear before them this week, but did not say whether that swayed their decision to keep Berkowitz behind bars.
