(NEW YORK) -- A Venezuelan man was arrested after prosecutors say he threatened residents of Newtown, Conn., shortly after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Not long after Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School, families in the Newtown area began to receive threatening phone calls. The caller would identify himself as Lanza, threatening to kill the the recipient of the call.
Police identified the caller as Wilfrido Cardenas Hoffman and charged him with transmitting threats. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. Police said that Hoffman was caught while traveling through Miami on his way to Mexico.
