(LOS ANGELES) -- Sorry Gladiators! Harrison Wright is probably gone forever after being held at gunpoint at the end of Scandal's third season.
Actor Columbus Short, who portrayed Olivia Pope's right hand man on ABC's hit show Scandal, announced last month he will not return to the show next season, after battling numerous personal problems that were well-publicized.
Still, after Deadline reported that Short had already been replaced with actor Eric West, Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes slammed the report.
"I've never heard of Eric West. Harrison is not being recast EVER. How about reporters CHECK THEIR SOURCES before running with a story?" she tweeted.
"Um, @Deadline? Handle yourself," Rhimes added, pointedly.
West, who's appeared in Hey Girl and Hawaii Five-0, also chimed in tweeting: "this is news to me.."
Deadline then changed their story and instead issued an apology. "Sorry, Scandal fans. In the rush of upfront news, a release purported to be from ABC about an actor named Eric West, whose name had been circulated for weeks, replacing troubled Scandal co-star Columbus Short got to me. It turns out it was an elaborate hoax, which is very unfortunate," TV editor Nellie Andreeva wrote. "Scandal creator said on Twitter that she has never heard of West and there are no plans to recast Short."
Short announced his departure last month after his wife reportedly obtained a restraining order and filed for divorce after he allegedly threatened to kill the both of them. In March, Short pleaded not guilty to spousal battery in a separate incident, after he allegedly attacked his wife in front of his daughter and his son. Around the same time he entered that plea, he was arrested for allegedly punching another man at a West Los Angeles restaurant.
