(NEW YORK) -- Lifetime is going back to Bayside High. The network will air The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, which documents what happened on the set of the popular series when the cameras were off.
A press release sent out by Lifetime explains, the film "delves into the experiences of six unknown young actors placed into the Hollywood spotlight, exposing the challenges of growing up under public scrutiny while trying to maintain the squeaky-clean image of their popular characters both on and off-screen."
Dustin Diamond, who played Screech Powers, wrote a tell-all book five years ago that revealed some of the secrets from behind the scenes including allegations of threesomes and drug use. However, this special is not based on Diamond’s book, according to EW.com.
The cast includes Dylan Everett as Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Sam Kindseth as Dustin Diamond, Julian Works as Mario Lopez, Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tiera Skovbye as Elizabeth Berkley and Taylor Russell McKenzie as Lark Voorhies.
The roles were filled by the casting director from the original series -- Robin Lippin.
The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story will air September 1 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
Saved by the Bell aired from 1989 to 1993.
