Primitive Technologies Series: The Atlatl

 

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site invites the public to participate in a day program learning about the ancient hunting and throwing device known as the Atlatl. Activities will include instruction on the development of hunting tools, different Atlatl styles, and throwing techniques. There will also be an outside segment where participants can practice throwing darts at a target using the Atlatl and a guided tour.
Caddo Mounds State Historic Site, a Texas Historical Commission property, is the remains of a large village and ceremonial center built by a group of Caddo Indians known as the Hasinai more than 1,200 years ago on the prairie overlooking the Neches River. Located along the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas, the site presents the culture and customs of the Caddo people through intriguing exhibits, displays and the preserved burial and ceremonial mounds
Ages seven or older.
